Knewsroom Krocks

I tried Kluster's new project Knewsroom out yesterday. At first I almost didn't sign up. It just seemed like a Digg ripoff and it almost didn't grab my attention but then I read that you can use points called Watts to invest into stories that you like. If the story makes it then bling-bling ka ching you get a return on the amount of points that you invested. On top of that you get a share of the ad revenue that the story generates in the form of cash flo' money. Once you reach a certain amount, they pop it on a Master Card.

So I signed up and took a risk and dumped 80% of my Watts into a story about the release of Fedora 9. Don't hate, I like to support linux, even though it isn't my sweet rolling Ubuntu. I also put small amounts into a few other stories but at least I didn't brown nose and drop a ton of Watts into this story about the launch of Kluster's new project Knewspaper, Duh! Your on it, you know this already. I mean come on, that is stupid and so many people invested in that not because it was a good story but because they wanted a high return on what they invested in. I hope silly trends like that don't continue.

I think the concept and idea behind Knewsroom is solid as camel poop in the snow and I hope it keeps churning along like Thomas the Train but honestly, lets hope that people don't continue to take the safe road to glory. Lets use our Watts to get the goods out there.

Ubuntu is Coming to the Fort

Thanks to our resident tech guru actionM, Print Fortress is switching over to Linux. The new version of Ubuntu to be specific. We need a more secure, productive computing environment and Ubuntu is going to be the perfect solution.

I currently have become additcted to Twitter, I'm not the only one. I just love simplicity and simplicity loves me. Make something simple with the ability to be creative and productive - I'm in.

Look to your right, yep I've already integrated Twitter. Try it for yourself.

Memories

I'm sitting here working and it is absolutely beautiful outside. From time to time my mind wonders and I recall good memories from the past.

In doing such it made me realize that we should constantly be doing things that we love, create more good memories of sorts. Take risks or do things out of the ordinary to stand out as a unique experience.

Live life to collect memories. Good memories are the most valuable thing that we can collect. Give good, remember good.

A To-Do isn't hard to do.

Here at P. Fort we are always up for some sweet web tools. I use a particular web tool until I find another one that does the same thing but better with less unused features.

Over the last several months I've used 30 boxes for the to-do list feature only. I never really used the calendar feature, which is the main part of 30 boxes. The calendar feature is average, who wants mediocre. I want a Calendar is blows me away by being just a calendar. I also recently tried Plaxo's calendar for a couple of days. It didn't take me long to move on.

Google Calendar is by far the best online calendar to date. I continue to try other calendars from time to time but I always switch right back to Google Calendars.

The 30 boxes to-do list has been replaced with 37signals basecamp. It's hard finding just a to-do list that does what I need it to do. 37 Signals applications are fantastic but still have room to grow and simplify even more.

A great to-do list allows you to add items to a list very easily and allow you to reorganize as things change. A great to-do list has a passion for ever changing events. So far basecamp has the best to-do list but it is just a small portion of the project management application, mainly used for teams of people.

When developers are working on a new web app/tool they need to do one thing really well. The last thing that we need is another application that is full of features that detract from the core function of the application. Browsers now have snazzy little tabs that open within the same window. It's time to kill the clutter and start making concentrated web tools. This way tabs can be opened for the to-do list of choice, calendar of choice, address book of choice, etc etc.

The browser becomes the frame work for your choice of web tools.

Why change when you can just go out of business?

It really is that simple. Why go through all the hard work of taking risks and changing things up to keep it fresh and alive when you can just sit on your ass and coast your way to demise.

Over the last week I have heard about several businesses closing. People believe that it is because of higher gas prices or a declining economy but it isn’t. It simply is because businesses that play it safe and don’t reinvest new energy into new ideas die. Point blank.

These businesses going under are stale and brittle. From time to time the Economy has to prune the week limbs out of a tree. Ice storms work in the same way, they are very beneficial for forests by clearing the weak limbs, leaving the tree healthier and ready for new growth.

If you offer a good product that makes people feel FANTASTIC, sweat over small details, push things to the edge, constantly evaluate how you can give something great to others at a good price, help others do what you do, don’t listen to the majority of people who think you are crazy and have fun, then you can survive no matter what the economy appears to be doing.
